France Coach - Laurent Blanc:
Laurent Blanc is the current head coach of the French national team. He replaced the controversial Raymond Domenech after the catastrophe that was the 2010 World Cup for the French.
Blanc's move into management came after a distinguished playing career that saw him represent the likes of Montpellier, Napoli, Auxerre, Marseille, Barcelona, Inter and Man Utd! Whilst Blanc is still a relatively inexperienced manager having only managed Bordeaux before the national team job became available he has quickly got the French back on track and they will be a match for anyone at Euro 2012!
Fun Fact: Blanc is widely remembered for kissing good friend and French goalkeeper Fabien Barthez on his shaven head before matches, supposedly for good luck!
France - Euro 2012 Qualifying:
Not for the first time, qualification for the French wasn't as straightfoward as it perhaps should have been. They eventually took top spot by finishing one point above Bosnia Herzegovina (who lost out to Portugal in the play-offs) in Group D. France's qualification is best described as solid, they only lost one match and conceded just 4 goals. However, a tally of only 15 goals scored means the French may have to adopt a more attack minded approach at the Euro 2012 Finals if they are to triumph!

France - Past European Championship Performances:
The French have a strong record at the European Championships with their two titles coming in 1984 and 2000. It was a Michel Platini inspired team that won Euro 1984 for the French on home soil, he scored 9 goals for Les Bleus which secured their first major international title.
At World Cup 1998 and Euro 2000, it was the turn of the French Golden Generation. France met Brazil in the 1998 World Cup final and secured their first World Cup title by winning 3-0 in front of their ecstatic fans at the Stade de France! Zinedine Zidane scored twice and Emmanuel Petit got the winner in the dying seconds to lead Les Bleus to victory! France followed this up at Euro 2000 when they defeated Italy 2-1 in the final after an extra time golden goal strike by David Trezeguet. This win meant the French were World and European Football Champions at the same time!
At World Cup 2006, Zinedine Zidane inspired an ageing French team to the World Cup final where they met Italy. The game ended in a 1-1 draw in normal time and moved into extra time where Zidane in the final game of his career head-butted Marco Materazzi in the chest in an off-the-ball incident and was sent off! The match went to a penalty shoot-out and after David Trezeguet missed the advantage was with the Italian's. Fabio Grosso stepped up and scored the winning penalty for the Azzuri.
At Euro 2008, France were eliminated bottom of their group and then they imploded in spectacular style at World Cup 2010! Nicolas Anelka argued with Raymond Domenech and was sent home midway through the tournament. His team mates refused to train and the French President Nicolas Sarkozy met with Thierry Henry to try and calm the situation! Domenech was promptly sacked and replaced by Laurent Blanc who's first task was suspending the entire playing squad!
Let's hope for some French harmony at Euro 2012!
- Euro 1996 - Eliminated In Semi Finals
- Euro 2000 - WON
- Euro 2004 - Eliminated In Quarter Finals
- Euro 2008 - Eliminated Bottom Of Group
France - Player to Watch - Karim Benzema
Our Player to Watch for the French at Euro 2012 is the Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema! He is one of the most feared strikers in Europe and is known for his technical ability, strong physique, powerful style of play and finishing ability.
Benzema started his career at his hometown club Lyon where he scored 43 goals in 112 appearances. His prolific goalscoring ability caught the eye of several big clubs around Europe and he was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. However, it was Real Madrid who made the first move for Benzema and in 2009 they snapped him up for a whopping €41 million transfer fee! After signing for Real Madrid Benzema took quite a while to establish himself as a regular starter but he is now flourishing under the guidance of Jose Mourinho. He is banging in the goals for Real Madrid and if can carry his form into Euro 2012 then the French are not to be underestimated! The beteuro2012.com team also like the look of Benzema for the Euro 2012 Golden Boot with odds around 25/1!
Karim Benzema Fun Fact: On December 10th 2011 Benzema scored the fastest ever El Clasico goal, just 22 seconds into the game between Barcelona and Real Madrid!
France - Our Prediction:
France have been drawn in Group D at Euro 2012 where they will face England, Sweden and the co-hosts Ukraine.
After a disastrous World Cup 2010, Laurent Blanc has quickly stamped his authority on the squad and they will head to Euro 2012 with confidence. The bookies are quoting best odds around 16/1 for France to win Euro 2012 which we think is a decent price if as we expect the French make the knockout stages. We think the French have it within them to go far at Euro 2012 but that all depends on who they could meet in the knockout stages?
From a betting perspective we think France have a strong chance of winning Group D but a lot will depend on their clash with England. They are defensively sound (think under 2.5 goals) but they will need to find their shooting boots to go deep into the tournament. If they do they, the beteuro2012.com team feel France are a strong outsider to win Euro 2012!
