Germany Coach: Joachim Low
Joachim Low nicknamed "Jogi" is the current Head Coach of Germany and he replaced Jurgen Klinsmann after the 2006 World Cup. Despite having limited top level managerial experience Low has proven himself by taking Germany to the Euro 2008 Final, 3rd place at the 2010 World Cup and now to Euro 2012 with a perfect 10 wins from 10 games in qualifying! During the Euro 2012 qualification campaign Low was rewarded with a new contract that will keep him with Germany until 2014.
The appointment of Joachim Low in 2006 certainly raised a few eyebrows but he has quietly gone about his work reinventing Germany as an attacking force with a focus on youth. Low will have some wonderful players at his disposal for Euro 2012 including the likes of Ozil, Mueller, Kroos and Gomez and expectations will be high!
FUN FACT: During Germany's 2009 Wembley friendly with England, old "Jogi" was caught on camera vigorously rubbing his armpit and then sniffing his hand! He was also spotted picking his nose and then chewing the bogey during the qualifier against Wales - a strange way to cope with the stress of top level management!
Germany - Euro 2012 Qualifying:
Germany qualified for Euro 2012 from Group A with ease at the expense of Turkey, Belgium, Austria, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. A 3-1 home win over Belgium in the final qualiying game made it a perfect 10 wins from 10 matches in which they scored 34 goals and only conceded 7!

Germany - Past European Championship Performances:
Germany have won the competition once since reunification (Euro 1996) but three times overall having earlier won the competition in 1972 and 1980 as West Germany. The Czech Republic were defeated in the 1996 final at Wembley, Oliver Bierhoff scoring the golden goal winner five minutes into extra-time after having earlier scored their equaliser 17 minutes from time. Patrik Berger had given the Czechs a 59th-minute lead from the penalty spot. Germany advanced from the group stage with defeats of the Czech Republic (2-0) and Russia (3-0) before holding Italy to a scoreless draw. Their reward was a quarter-final match against Croatia which Germany won 2-1 before they defeated the hosts England (again!) in the Semi Final on penalties after the match ended 1-1 after extra-time.
At Euro 2008, Germany made their presence felt as they marched to the Final once again! They started with a 2-0 win against Poland, yet a defeat by Croatia in their subsequent Group B game heralded a tense finale against co-hosts Austria which they won 1-0. The Germans really found their stride against Portugal in the Quarter Finals, jumping into a 2-0 lead within 26 minutes before finally emerging as 3-2 winners. More drama followed in the last four as they outlasted Turkey by the same scoreline to set up a Euro 2008 Final clash with Spain. It was here the Germans came unstuck as Spain inspired by the likes of Xavi and Iniesta defeated a resiliant German side thanks to a single Fernando Torres goal in the Euro 2008 final in Vienna!

Germany - Player to Watch - Thomas Müller
Not unlike Spain, the Germans have a wealth of world class players that could easily fill our Player to Watch criteria for Euro 2012. The likes of Ozil, Schweinstieger, Podolski or Gomez are just some of the names we've considered but we really like the look of the young Bayern Munich attacker Thomas Müller!
Müller can play as a midfielder or forward and has been deployed in a variety of attacking roles in midfield, as a second striker and on either wing. He is known for his versatility, pace, technique and having the knack of scoring and creating vital goals.
A product of the Bayern Munich youth set-up, Müller really came of age at the 2010 World Cup, where he scored five goals in six appearances as Germany finished in third place. He was named as the Young Player of the tournament and won the Golden Boot as the tournament's top scorer, with five goals and three assists!
If as expected Germany progress deep into Euro 2012 then Thomas Müller could shine just like he did at the World Cup. Germany - Our Prediction
To quote that famous saying "never write the Germans off", it was World Cup 2010 that highlighted this fact as a new generation of players took Germany within a whisker of making the World Cup Final! Before the World Cup most experts we questioning whether Germany were a spent force in world football but after South Africa and a perfect qualifying record they will be one of the most feared teams at Euro 2012.
Their current status as second favourites (odds around 7/2) to win Euro 2012 behind Spain is justified with a crop of young and exciting players who have that vital World Cup experience under their belt. Germany go into Euro 2012 as a major contender and if all goes to plan then "Jogi's Boys" could be on for a mouthwatering re-match of their Euro 2008 Final with Spain at Euro 2012!
Whilst we believe Holland offer punters more value than Germany in the Outright market, Germany are clearly the main rivals to Spain at Euro 2012. At this stage, a WIN bet on Germany on the Outright market (7/2), a win bet on Mario Gomez (8/1) and an each-way bet on Thomas Müller (25/1) for the Golden Boot are our antepost favourites. The "To Win the Group" market is risky with Holland a potential banana skin but Spain v Germany in the "Name the Finalists" market is appealing.
