Ireland Coach - Giovanni Trapattoni:
The legendary Italian Giovanni Trapattoni is the current Head Coach of the Republic of Ireland National Team and he was appointed in 2008.
As a player Trapattoni played almost exclusively for AC Milan as a defender and appeared at the 1962 World Cup. He made his move into management in 1974 and the list of clubs he has managed since reads like a roll call of Europe's footballing elite with Milan, Juventus, Inter and Bayern Munich amongst them!
Now 73 years of age, "Trap" as he is affectionately known shows no sign of slowing down and his experience will be invaluable for the Irish. If anyone can get them past Spain, Italy and Croatia and out of Group C then it's Giovanni Trapattoni!
Trapattoni Managerial Fun Facts - Trapattoni is one of only two coaches (alongside the Austrian Ernst Happel) to have won the league title in four different countries (Italy, Germany, Portugal, and Austria). Alongside the German Udo Lattek, Trapattoni is the only coach to have won all 3 major European club titles. Also, he is the only one to have won all UEFA club competitions and the World Club title as well as having the record of UEFA Cup (now Europa League) wins with 3!
Ireland - Euro 2012 Qualifying:
The Republic of Ireland qualified for Euro 2012 via the play-offs after fighting off challenges from Armenia and Slovakia and eventually finishing as runners-up behind Russia. A comfortable 5-1 aggregate win over Estonia in the play-offs meant it was party time for the Irish. Euro 2012 will be their first major tournament in 10 years after Thierry Henry's infamous juggling act denied them qualification for World Cup 2010!

Ireland - Past European Championship Performances:
Euro 2012 will surprisingly mark Ireland's second ever appearance at the European Championships. Their only other outing was at Euro 1988 where they finished 3rd in their group but famously beat England 1-0 thanks to an early Ray Houghton goal! After missing out several times in the play-offs since the colourful Irish fans will definently make their presence felt right across Poland and the Ukraine at Euro 2012!

Ireland - Player to Watch - Robbie Keane:
Our Player to Watch for the Republic of Ireland at Euro 2012 is their Captain, all time leading goalscorer and star striker Robbie Keane!
The well travelled Robbie Keane began his professional career at Wolverhampton Wanderers aged 17 and and scored his first international goal with Republic of Ireland aged 18. Over the years he has changed clubs frequently, scored plenty of goals and broke transfer fee records in the process. After he left Wolves, brief spells at Inter Milan and Leeds United followed before he settled down at Tottenham Hotspur in 2002 and played there for six years. A massive £20 million move to Liverpool (the club he supported growing up) followed in 2008 but that move didn't work out for Keane and after only 6 months he returned to Tottenham.
In January 2010, Keane moved on loan to Scottish side Celtic for the rest of the season before he left Spurs again for the MLS with LA Galaxy in 2011. In January 2012, Keane joined Premier League side Aston Villa on a two month loan, during the MLS off-season.
Robbie Keane's status as an Irish legend was secured when he became Ireland's record goalscorer in 2004 and national team captain in 2006. Keane's return at International level stands at 53 goals from 115 appearances to date and he once again topped the goalscorer charts for the Irish during Euro 2012 qualification.
Will we see Keane's trademark goalscoring tumble at Euro 2012? The Irish certainly hope so as they know Robbie Keane is their man to fire them into the knockout stages!
Ireland - Our Prediction
The Republic of Ireland have been drawn in Group C at Euro 2012 where they will face the reigning European Champions Spain as well as Italy and Croatia!
It's clear the Irish face a massive task to make the knockout stages of Euro 2012 but they will certainly be difficult to beat! The Irish were extremely well organised in qualifying and Trapattoni has them playing the Italian defensive style so they will be hard to break down. We like the look of under 2.5 goals when Ireland play Italy especially!
From a betting perspective, the Republic's opening match against Croatia is crucial to their chances. A win or draw leaves them with a chance of progressing but an opening defeat could mean curtains for Robbie Keane and co? The Irish have the players to cause an upset but luck will need to be on their side. As such our Euro 2012 bets on Ireland will be limited to match betting only with Robbie Keane to score anytime (every game) and under 2.5 goals also catching our eye.
The beteuro2012.com team are right behind the Republic of Ireland to qualify out of Group C but it's going to take a brave punter to part with their hard earned cash and have a bet on that! The bookies currently have Ireland at 1/7 antepost not to qualify from Group C which could prove spot on!
If you're interested in placing a bet on Ireland for Euro 2012 then you could do a lot worse than on Robbie Keane to win the Golden Boot. Keane is available around 100/1 antepost best odds to win the Euro 2012 Golden Boot and with his phenomenal goalscoring record at International level a cheeky few pounds each way (1/4 odds first 4) on Keane to be the top goalscorer could give a return?
