Euro 2012 Stadium Guide

The 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2012 will be co-hosted by both Poland and Ukraine from 8th June to 1st July 2012.

A total of 31 matches will be played during the Euro 2012 Finals, with Ukraine hosting 16 matches and Poland hosting 15 matches. 3 group matches including the opening match, quarter-final and semi-final will be held in Warsaw, Poland. 3 group matches, Quarter Final, Semi-Final and the Final of Euro 2012 will played in the NSK Olimpiyskyi in Kiev, Ukraine. The remaining games will be played in Poznan, Wroclaw and Gdansk in Poland and in Lviv, Donetsk and Kharkiv in Ukraine.

The Euro 2012 Final will take place at the NSK Olimpiyskyi in Kiev, Ukraine on the 1st July 2012.

Euro 2012 stadium venues in Poland & Ukraine

There are 8 Euro 2012 stadiums across Poland and Ukraine that will play host to the elite of European Football during Euro 2012. Six of the eight venues are brand new stadiums that have been built for Euro 2012, the remaining two venues (in Poznan and Kharkov) have undergone major improvements to be ready for Euro 2012.

National Stadium, Warsaw (Poland): Capacity - 58,145

National Stadium, Warsaw

The National Stadium football stadium is located in Warsaw, Poland and is found on the site of the former stadium Stadion Dziesieciolecia. The new stadium will have a seating capacity of 58,145 and construction started in 2008 and will finish in November 2011 ahead of Euro 2012. The national stadium is due to host the opening match (a group match), remaining 2 group matches, a quarter-final, and a semi-final of Euro 2012 hosted jointly by Poland and Ukraine. The National Stadium will not be the new home of Legia Warszawa or Polonia Warszawa football clubs. However, it is expected that Legia and Polonia may choose to use the National Stadium for high profile matches.

Stadion Miejski - Poznan (Poland): Capacity - 43,000

Stadion Miejski - Poznan

The Stadion Miejski or City Stadium is located in Poznan, Poland and it is the home ground of Lech Poznan and Warta Poznan.

The stadium was rebuilt and completed in 2010 and now has 43,000 covered seats. The stadium will play host to group matches during Euro 2012.






PGE Arena - Gdansk (Poland): Capacity - 44,000

The PGE Arena Gdansk was previously known as the Baltic Arena, It was built to play host to 3 group matches and 1 quarter-final during Euro 2012.

The exterior of the new PGE Arena is designed to resemble amber which has long been extracted on the Baltic coast. Construction started in 2008 and was completed mid-2011 and it is now the new football home stadium of Lechia Gdansk.

The Stadion Miejski stadium in Wroclaw, Poland is one of the newly built Polish venues that will be used during Euro 2012. Three group matches will be played here and here's a couple of interesting facts.

The winning architect was JSK Architekci who's concept was called STADIUM-LANTERN. The distinctive shape was chosen to be easily recognisable and associated from across the city. Sporting fact number 2, Heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko (Ukraine) fought Tomasz Adamek (Poland) in this stadium on September 10, 2011.

NSK Olimpiyskyi - Kiev (Ukraine): Capacity - 63,195

NSK Olimpiysky - Kiev Ukraine

The newly constructed NSK Olimpiyskyi (the Olympic Stadium) is found in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The Olimpic National Sports Complex as it's also known has been built as a multi-use sports facility that is capable of hosting an Olympic Games and is located on the slopes of Cherepanov Hill, Pechersk Raion.

This new stadium stands proudly as the new premier sports venue of the Ukraine and the stadium will play host to the Final of Euro 2012 on July 1st, 2012.




Metalist Stadium - Kharkiv (Ukraine): Capacity - 38,633

The Metalist Stadium is also known as Oblast Sports Complex Metalist and it is a multi-use stadium located in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The stadium was originally built in 1925 but it has undergone regeneration for Euro 2012 and now has a capacity of 38,633. It is also the home of FC Metalist Kharkiv.







Donbass Arena - Donetsk (Ukraine): Capacity - 50,000

The new Donbass Arena is found in Donetsk, Ukraine and it opened on 29 August, 2009 following the completion of a 400 USD million project sponsored by the FC Shakhtar owner Rinat Akhmetov. The stadium is located in the center of the city, in the Lenin Comsomol park. With a capacity of 50,000 spectators, the Donbass Arena is the new home of FC Shakhtar Donetsk and will play host to matches during Euro 2012.





Lviv New Stadium - Lviv (Ukraine): Capacity - 34,915

Lviv New Stadium - Lviv (Ukraine)

The Lviv New Stadium is located Lviv, Ukraine and it will play host to group matches during Euro 2012. At the time of writing the name of the stadium has yet to be decided but for reference purposes it was given a working name of Lemberg which is German for Lviv.
